The surname originates from the Middle Irish '?a Fael?in' the name of the 10th to 11th century ruling dynasy of the D?isi, a population group inhabiting the area of the modern county of Waterford and south county Tipperary in the early medieval period. My great (6th) grandfather was Solomon Whalen (Whaland?) and I am trying to research my Irish roots? This is a picture of my 4th, 5th, 6th grandfathers. Solomon was from Ireland and so was Henry Whalen. If you have any of these relatives and could help me, I would appreciate it.

My paternal Gr Gr Grandfather was Thomas Whalen (Whelan??), born Jan 1829, died Oct 1903; immigrated from Ireland in 1849/1850, possibly through Philadelphia, PA (based on the DNA story given to me by ancestry). My DNA story says I am from Donegal, in northern Ireland. Trying to find additional ancestors, family crest, etc.
