WASSON Family History
This is an English dialectal locational surname. It derives from one of the villages called 'Weston' of which there are several examples, and all have the same meaning of the 'tun', which in this case is a single farm or small hamlet, to the west (of a larger village), or in the case of 'Weston-super-Mare', the 'tun' to the west by the sea. The local dialect particularly in the West Country itself and in Kent-Sussex would submerge the central 't' into a double or single 's', to give a wide range of individual surnames such as Wesson, Weson, Wasson, Wason, Wessing, Wison, and many others.Select Audience

Wasson
My grandfather told me that my Scottish gr-gr-gr-grandfather was buried in Kentucky with his Native American wife. It was only after a DNA test that I learned I am more Irish and Welsh than Scottish. There is a viking line from Denmark or Finland thrown about for good measure. I would like to know more about my Irish and Welsh roots. To my knowledge, no one 'famous' on line of the tree.

Wasson
My ancestrial line traces back to Archibald Wasson. Archibald Wasson was born in County Mayo, (b.1716 - d.1785) but his family originates in Mauchline, Ayrshire, Scotland.ย ย His father, John Wasson, emigrated to County Antrim, Ireland sometime before 1700 when his first son, John, Jr. was born in Dunaghy Parish, Antrim, Ireland.ย ย There seems to be some confusion as to whether Archibaldโs mother was Mary Deemer or Jean Walker. Archibald Wasson was a cordwainer and farmer.
Archibald Wasson and members of his family seems to have emigrated to the American Colonies prior to 1739.ย ย They mustย have had connections both in the Ulster Scots community in Pennsylvania and in North Carolina.ย ย A Rowan County, North Carolina marriage bond is on record
